  • What Does Ohio Require to Get Your License?

If you’re under 21 in Ohio, the state requires you to complete:

    • 24 hours of classroom or online driver’s ed, and
    • 8 hours of behind-the-wheel driving with a certified instructor
  • What Does Ohio Require for a Limited Term License?

If you’re applying for a Limited Term License in Ohio, here’s what you need to know:

    • Driver Training: You must complete 24 hours of classroom or online lessons plus 8 hours of behind-the-wheel training with a certified instructor.
    • License Name: These were once called “nonrenewable/nontransferable” licenses, but now they’re referred to as Limited Term Licenses.

Click here for more information about Limited Term Licenses

  • When Can I Start the Class?

You can start driver’s ed once you’re at least 15 years and 5 months old.

  • Are Your Instructors Licensed?

Yes! All of our instructors are fully licensed by the State of Ohio. To qualify, they go through intensive training and must pass background checks, including driving record reviews and fingerprint checks.

On top of that, most of our instructors are college graduates, and some even hold teaching certificates from the State Board of Education. In other words—you’ll be learning from safe, qualified, and professional instructors who know how to teach.

  • How Is the Class Taught?

Our online classes are taught in a way that keeps things clear and easy to understand. Instructors lead lessons and group discussions, and we also use videos to show real driving situations that are easier to learn visually.

Every class focuses on defensive driving and building the right attitude to be a safe, responsible driver.

  • Do I Have to Take All the Classes in a Row?

Nope! You don’t have to take the classes back-to-back. Each class follows a schedule, and our office can help you figure out which lessons are happening on which days.

The classes are independent, so you can make your own schedule. Just remember—you
do need to attend and complete all of them before you can finish the program.

  • How Long Do I Have to Finish the Program?

You’ll have 6 months from your first day of class to complete the whole program.

  • Do You Pick Up Students?

Yes! We can pick you up from home, school, or work—as long as it’s in the same area and your parent/guardian has approved it.

For safety reasons, we can’t drop you off at any location that hasn’t been cleared with your parent/guardian first.

  • Can I Drive Once I Get a Permit?

With a permit, you can’t drive alone. You’re only allowed to drive if a parent, guardian, or licensed adult is in the car with you. Driving by yourself with just a permit is against the law.

  • When Can I Schedule My Driving Test at the BMV?

You can schedule your driving test after you’ve:

    1. Finished the 24 hours of online classroom training
    2. Passed the final exam at the end of the Online Education
    3. Completed 8 hours of behind-the-wheel lessons with a licensed instructor

Once you do all of that, Youth Driving School will give you your Certificate of Completion. With that certificate, you can go online and schedule your driving test through the Ohio BMV:

  • How Many Hours Do I Drive with an Instructor Each Day?

When you’re scheduled for driving lessons with one of our licensed instructors, each session lasts 2 hours. You’ll need to complete 4 sessions in total (2 hours each) to finish your required 8 hours of driving.
