Documents Needed to Get Your Driver’s License
When you apply for your Ohio driver’s license or permit, the BMV accepts specific document types to prove your identity, legal presence, Social Security number, and Ohio residency. Acceptable Documents for Identity and Date of Birth
- Certified U.S. birth certificate
- Valid, unexpired U.S. passport or passport card
- Permanent Resident Card (green card)
- Consular Report of Birth Abroad
Acceptable Documents for Your Social Security Number
- Social Security card
- W-2 or 1099 form showing your full SSN
- Pay stub showing your name and full Social Security number
Acceptable Documents for Legal Presence
